When confronted with the accusation of having constructed nuclear weapons, or being in the process of building some, Israel retorted that it would accept observers from the United States to verify those claims. Israel allegedly knew of the schedule of those observers and was thus able to prevent them from discovering the true nature of its nuclear program. However, as in the case of Pakistan, Israel is an important American ally in the region.

Moreover, much of the international community is either sympathetic to the position of Israel, which is surrounded by Arab states, many of which have declared their intentions to destroy the country, or else complacent about the whole affair, as a result of which there have been no sanctions towards Israel similar to those that North Korea or Iran have experienced.
