Animal Farm Reveals the Secrets of Totalitarian Regime Essay

This paper is devoted to "Animal Farm" by George Orwell. Totalitarianism is sarcastically revealed in this great piece of writing. The author shows the importance of propaganda for totalitarian regime. He insists in the book that only with the help of specific propaganda it is possible to make people think your way. It is interesting to investigate the way terror and propaganda work together. Vivid scenes of animal meetings under the cover of night and the resolutions the animals did is the first stage to totalitarianism, says the author, though it brings no good to most of the participants of the rebel.

One of the important stylistic devises that Orwell uses is talking names. Most of the names of animals show their character and implement the role that these animals will play in the novel. For instance, the beginning of the rebel was influenced by the kind boar called Old Major. Though, his successor, who continued his lifework, is called Napoleon. Thus, the whole novel is just the political allegory where not only the way the revolution run was criticized, though also the methods that were used in Soviet Union during the Stalin's totalitarian regime.

Any totalitarian regime is characterized by the absolute power and the use of terror to influence people. Orwell shows these characteristics, when describing the way Napoleon made others listen to him and obey him. As we see the problems and negative features of totalitarianism are vividly shown in "Animal Farm".
