This puts a woman into a position where she is ought to choose out of two options, the worst and least desirable of which is reflected in the mentioned phrase. The poem, nonetheless, maintains its balance, introducing the final part. In the very end the man softens the impression of stunning arguments by an immense flow of passion and desire towards the woman. During the poem she experiences deep platonic feelings, a fear of unjustified chastity and, after all, feels loved and desired.
